Do you find that It Binds All Things is too slow? Seems like it would have a better cost curve compared to Reaping the Crystal since most of the costed cards are blue upgrades.

Merl1nus 131

I have considered it. I have more testing to do but it is slow. The benefit is that this is a slower deck. The end result may still be better for it. I will test and update here. Thanks for the input!

Hey, thanks for the write-up. Love playing this character combo. I play Bestow in my deck and was wondering what made you decide to not run it? I really enjoy being able to use Padawan ability more than once for cheap upgrades, especially combined with It Binds All Things. But, since you're 7-0 so far (congrats!) I'd love to hear why you think it doesn't make the cut. Thanks

Hey. So the problem with bestow is that you need the card early. Otherwise padawan has a speed on her making it no reason to move the weapon. Also since bestow is 1 cost then you place the new weapon on padawan the cost reduction is negated as you are using the one you saved from padawan for bestow. I actually like loading up Padawan. Makes her a target. As long as one of her upgrades is redeploy (Rey's ) and a speed then if they keep hitting Mace then Padawan can keep hitting and soon get bigger upgrades. Mace gets cheaper upgrades like force protection or the ancient saber for healing. They kill padawan then mace gets the redeploy anyway. Hope that helps :)

As it is very difficult to get hold of Ancient Lightsabers, what would you use instead of them?? I do like the Mace card, and would like to try him, so was glad to find your list and article

Merl1nus 131

That is tough as this deck really loves it. Fearless is an option that remains 2 cost. Gives shields. And draw to get more of what you want. Issue there is that shoto and lightsaber pull lose some viability. Shoto more so. Would have to test. You could also abandon it and go for something like Luke's protection to get the shield and the protection from mill. Lightsaber comes to mind but that is another 3 cost and then you may want another reaping to help with the cost. Hope those ideas help.

Only question if I have is why no My Ally Is The Force? I feel that My Ally is a good stand in for Force Strike for heroes in general, but I can understand if you don't have the resources.

Merl1nus 131

Yea it's really the resources. 2 for My Ally is The Force. And can't use it for the 4 side due to the resource cost so really only useful for the 2 damage. Better for that resources on another upgrade that could also heal or provide that 2 damage anyway. Especially with mitigation more dice the better.

I've been playing Mace Windu - Jedi Champion since EAW dropped, I'm in the same boat as you with Padawan as the best partner, which sorta sucks because Kylo Ren - Tormented One, is quite popular.

Close Quarters Assault and Willpower i think are the 2 biggest stand outs in your deck, which i think ill have to make room for.

The Shoto Lightsaber i think should be something else, they are a worse Ancient Lightsaber, that requires extra before its game text does any thing.

Merl1nus 131

Hey. So have I. So much fun. Agreed The new Kylo does hurt this deck a bunch. Yes Shoto is worse then Ancient Lightsaber but let me tell you why I still like it. If you can see a replacement for it please let me know.

  1. It is another damage dice for 2 cost. I try to avoid the 3 costs as much as possible for the Rey's is what I want the benefit from Padawan for. Especially since I won't usually overwrite Ancient Lightsaber but I could overwrite this with MOTC or vibroknife. I can Destiny it out easily and still damage.
  1. I can lightsaber pull for it. In case I have no weapons and ancients were discarded. Since I can't pull for vibroknife.

  2. If I can't get to my knife it's another way to at least go through shields. Even 1 shield off is helpful.

  3. It does add to my ability to survive. Usually it's going on either a Mace who already had Ancient. Or on Padawan who already has Rey's. Giving another shield is just good for this deck since there is less mitigation.

  4. A small target for guard. But still one. Another die for CQA.

So that is most if not all the reason I have for it. Of course it isn't the first weapon you equip but it only helps when it is the second. Hope that helps.

Deck is really good! Congratz

My only concern is with match ups against melee decks. Vibroknife really ruin your day as Guard is the only tool u've got to handle it.

As meta is heavy on melee, I would try to fit in an Overconfidience as it plays nicely with mace's die.

Scactha 888

Loving the deck too and especially the tech on Willpower. Somehow I believe big dice decks could use the new rerolling cards like Defiance (reroll + Heal), Roll On, Do Or Do Not (50% of 3+ damage) or No Surrender (Ambush speed reroll). Have you tried any of those?

Scactha 888

Forgot something. How about Synchronicity as another tool for getting into reach of "party over" with Mace? The idea is it does also go under the shields and with 9 -sides in the deck the odds of getting it off seems decent.

Merl1nus 131

Hey. Oh yea ASOS, vibroknife hurts this deck regardless but my local meta really doesn't play melee. Much more ranged. But if you are in a local meta of melee I could see you taking out 1 force illusion and 1 caution as those don't help as much against knife for 2 overconfidence.

Merl1nus 131

Hey Scactha. Oh yea Defiance is possible. Again it boils down to reduce the resources needed for the deck as that costs one for a reroll and heal. Which is on average a 1 for 2 or 1 for 1. I try to reduce luck as well as rolling crap means I wasted a resource. Roll on I feel I am better just discard to reroll more then 1 die. Do or do not I tested. It's good. But man 1/6 chance to doubt my own die away and 2/6 that I just get shields or resources. Again not bad but terrified of the reroll. Maybe remove a Destiny for it. Also bad if it is taking my unmodified side away and they can easily stop the modifiers if there is only 1 unmodified side left out (example). No surrender is same as Roll on for me. Rather just discard to reroll more dice even if chance to mitigate. Synchronicity isn't bad idea either. My problem I have had with it, as used it also with qui/Rey, is how I have to have it in my hand and then roll both. Initial roll if you count Rey's is 1/6 with 1/6 with 1/6. Out of 24 sides of the mace/padawan/Rey's lightsaber is 3 shield sides. And I never roll it. So it becomes a dead card. Then you have to wait for more upgrades to get better chances as early it's not good. That's just my experience. Thanks for the ideas!

I had a Mace deck and am trying your build and so far, I like it. That said, I'd love to find room for a second Master of the Councilmaster. I'm considering dropping a Cautioncan't as Vibroknife is so popular in my meta. Thrawnkar is also big. Thoughts?

Merl1nus 131

Hey. You could drop a caution as once padawan dies it's a dead card. Then use destiny or overwrite. I stayed at 1 as with 2 I kept getting it too early and didn't need it and would hate to see two in my hand ever. 4 cost is tough to bring out hence it's really for end game. Thrawnkar is tough for this deck especially if they run control suite of detention center and prized possession. You need to get upgrades down fast and then use the rest of your cards to reroll and kill unkar fast out of possible crime lord fear. Hope that helps.

Scactha 888

@Merl1nusI wouldn´t agree that the math is bad on finding for Synchronicity with 2 dice on Mace. A native 30% means you´ll hit it when it matters. In the first 3 turns. But that said I agree with your notion of always striving to escape risk. It´s the essence of deck building after all ;)

Merl1nus 131

@Scactha. My apologies. Not saying the math is bad. Saying in my experience for me (maybe my luck) it never works out. I never hit it when it mattered lol. Even with Qui/Rey. Also since I would not reroll to get the shields so if I don't hit it first roll with also the melee then it's also wasted. Lastly for Mace more then others due to his ability his die get super focused for mitigation. I could see it maybe for a replacement for a caution or destiny but I fear my luck lol.

Scactha 888

Good point on not wanting to wait around for mitigation. Better just get those dice working! :)

Porg_FriedRice 27

After the RRG would you make any changes? You think Vibroknife is still worth the slots? Loving my Mace/Padawan deck.

Merl1nus 131

Hey @JackPoison. My latest version does have a It Binds All Things in place of reaping the crystal. I think Vibroknife for now still has a place as the modifiers from this can do decent unblockable and getting the +2 on it from mace 4 is still good for 6 unblockable. It still acts as a grey also for if you still face Kylo2.

Porg_FriedRice 27

@Merl1nus It binds al things made a huge difference! The resource economy is much better with it and it allows for more weapons to come online. Thanks!
