Destiny Deck Analysis 271
Wrecking with Rieekan
A remake of an old favorite that I piloted to a second place finish in a Q3 tournament.
Characters
General Rieekan - Defensive Mastermind: The first truly effective mill character, General Rieekan is able to both aggressively mill your opponent and play defensively at the same time.
Maz Kanata - Pirate Queen: Provides both speed and consistency for this deck. Whether it is triggering Spy Net or resolving a critical resource or shield side, she increases the effectiveness of the deck as a whole.
Anakin Skywalker - Podracing Prodigy: Though he does not mill either, his podracer does, and provides shields at the same time. Additionally, his auto-focus makes certain that even if you can't focus into a shield side, you are guaranteed to at least get shields from Anakin Skywalker's Podracer.
Battlefield
This was a difficult choice, but as my build primarily mills of the deck, I felt I needed a battlefield that would punish my opponent's hand. Then I was torn between Imperial Palace - Coruscant and Jedi Temple - Coruscant. This then proved to be a difficult choice, but I feel Jedi Temple - Coruscant is correct given the meta I am currently facing. However, if you feel you are playing primarily vehicle decks, Imperial Palace - Coruscant may be the right choice for you.
Upgrades
Chance Cube: Partly included for the mill v. mill matchup, this upgrade proves to be very consistent with both General Rieekan and Maz in play.
Supports
Anakin Skywalker's Podracer: As stated previously, this card is so consistent with Anakin and also helps to trigger General Rieekan's ability.
C-3PO: Late game this card helps to ensure that you can get the final card or two out of your opponent's hand.
Maz's Vault: This provides a lot of versatility, allowing you to activate then hyperspace out without having to worry about gaining resources before you are able.
Spy Net: Acts as an excellent way of discarding multiple cards off of a single action, like a Rieekan activation, making way for a hyperspace jump or a retreat.
Suppressive Fire: For the occasional matchup against a deck that relies on action cheating, this card helps to limit the statistical probability that they can deal massive quantities of damage in a single activation.
Events
The events are largely what you would expect from a hero mill deck. Massive quantities of the strongest mitigation, but there are a few cards you might not expect.
All Quiet On The Front: Included specifically for the mirror, the thought is you could simply stack shields on your characters, then mill 9 cards in exchange for a single card. This would functionally guarantee the victory.
Retreat: Included to counter vehicle decks, retreat decreases your opponents ability to utilize their entire board of cards.
Hyperspace Jump: Once again provides speed and ensures your opponent is not gaining much utility for each of their turns.
Strategy
The goal is to get to the point where you can
- Activate the podracer.
- Activate Anakin and focus the podracer die.
- Activate Maz and resolve two dice.
- Activate General Rieekan and mill your opponent, triggering cards like Spy Net as able.
- Hyperspace Jump out of the round and do it again!
This deck if anything is inspired by the Store Championship winning Rex/Clone/Maz decklists that do a similar thing, but deal damage instead of mill. Let me know your thoughts on the build and give it a go if you like!
Looks like a lot of fun, while still being effective. Nice job
