I've been wanting to make a deck around Jabba the Hutt - Renowned Gangster for a while now; I think he brings a unique challenge to deckbuilding, and despite having great die and health values, has a point cost just restrictive enough to make him not super accessible for all decks. Plus, look at how much fun he seems to be having on his card! I want to have that much fun too.

So we're going to build around Jabba's special, and this is the Trilogy format. Plenty of potential options here. Local players have tried Bib Fortuna - Majordomo and Arihnda Pryce - Unscrupulous Governor to varying degrees of success, and while those seem pretty cool I wanted to try and get some Blue in there. Both of those styles are probably better (Red being better at closing games with the damage sides and standalone potential of Captain Phasma - Ruthless Tactician and Pryce, and Yellow at hopefully just overwhelming the opponent through up to 4 resolutions of Jabba die in a round before Jabba gets defeated) especially considering the only Blue characters in Trilogy that have special sides are Fifth Brother - Intimidating Enforcer, Dark Advisor and Anakin Skywalker - Conflicted Apprentice. Not great options, so we're probably going 3-wide with Dark Advisor. Hello there Battle Droid! It's not a terrible pickup, with sides that tag fairly well with some of our other dice, like the aforementioned Dark Advisor, Underhanded Tactics and can be held on rollout for potential Flank plays, which is a solid card for this deck. We get rainbow potential here too, but as you see I didn't find much in Trilogy worth bringing along that was Red. Tactical Mastery into Grand Entrance though...

Ultimately, we're eschewing the up-front power of a two-character lineup for the good Blue options in Trilogy. I think it's at least worth considering; just look at how many 1-cost drops you can have access to, and how many have at least two special sides! Great stuff.

I built this deck around odd cards for the longevity Witch Magick brings, with 4 even and 26 odd. The jury's out on how well this will actually work, but man if it works for Tarkin - Grand Moff / Snoke - Supreme Leader (a sick deck that a swell guy in a city over has been piloting and a deck I am making after this one) it should hopefully help keep Jabba alive for longer because we need the big guy. We miss out on cool cards like Take Flight and have to be careful with our two-drops (sorry, XS Stock Light Freighter!) but I think I'm okay with it. I hope that ramping through a ton of one-cost upgrades and hopefully just going BOOM before opponents get their Dagger of Mortis down will be better than trying to drop higher-cost options with these characters, but again it's certainly possible the Pryce combo will still do that better anyway... I'm just trying something out here don't judge me!

Battlefield has been a total mystery to me, a Standard Hero vehicle player. I am running Comm Tower - Scarif in the Pryce deck and JUST NOW REALIZING I can put in Espionage there to make that the best potential option, but as for this lineup I have zero clue. Citadel Landing Zone - Scarif seems like a decent choice but maybe Dry Fields - Atollon could also work since I feel like I'll be resource starved and it doesn't benefit me too much? Would love some opinions on that. EDIT: I am trying Rift Valley - Dathomir, and it seems successful in getting the opponent to take their battlefield every time they win the opening roll.

Going to start getting reps in ASAP to see how it does. I actually don't think it can close games if Jabba's dice get mitigated consistently, but we can start here and just go to one of the aforementioned builds and dump Blue if necessary. I like how diverse the build is color-wise for Kylo Ren - Tormented One, is he even a problem in Trilogy?

Current evens:

Notable inclusions:

  • Crystal Ball, Bardottan Sphere and Bartering: the three of these get one line since they require one explanation essentially. Bardottan could potentially bring some much-needed targeted damage to the deck, but I don't always want to be discarding the top card of my deck. Crystal Ball is a fine answer to that, but lacking in a special side so it's a one-of. The benefits it brings could potentially make it worth it, or I could just drop it! I feel like I'm going to just have all these special sides not really do anything if Jabba's dice get removed, and this can hopefully ensure I get some good damage in. Dark Advisor also has interesting synergy with the Bardottan special, since I can further guarantee the card being odd by just putting it right there! EDIT: I have switched the Crystal Ball for two copies of Dark Counsel for the focus and additional special side, plus it re-enters the pool upon resolution of the special side, which helps with the Free-for-All I am running.

  • Force Wave: Not sure if this will be any good, especially since it'll be stuck on the Dark Advisor, but I wanted to include a single one to help get some damage going. If not for the odd restrictions, this could have potentially been a Hunter Instinct, but I think Force Wave has a better die anyway, resource cost aside. EDIT: I am up to 2 copies, which seems effective enough, but I have not gotten many reps in with both copies to know for sure. When combined with the V-1, however, it could be a huge damage swing, especially against 3 wide.

  • Formidable and V-1 Thermal Detonator: the debate of the two-cost rages pretty fierce here and could change at any moment. I think the V-1 is the more aggressive option, but Formidable is going to keep us in the game longer with Shield sides and the dice not exploding itself upon resolution. I feel like damage is really low in this deck, so I opted for a second V-1 to help push tempo (Jabba for 4 Indirect, Jabba for 3 Indirect, V-1 for 2 to all, V-1 for 2 to all sounds disgusting), but just like the previous point, a Hunter Instinct could always come in or swap some of these around. EDIT: Currently, I decided to cut the copy of Formidable I was running. This was a tough choice, as Formidable is an incredibly strong upgrade, but due to it being an even cost, as well as the strain this deck has on resources already, I opted for the additional V-1 to maintain damage pressure over Formidable's slower style. The 2 melee and 2 shield sides will be missed, but the addition of another Force Wave may be more useful? We're basically min-maxing garbage anyway, so it could potentially come back in if the other evens aren't performing.

  • Bubble Shield: something something mitigation Indirect

  • Free-For-All: Theoretically, the ultimate closer card for all those useless dice I'm rolling out. A fascinating card I've been wanting to try for a while now. Not at all a good draw early in the game though.

  • Way of the Dark: Another card I've wanted to use in a deck for SO long and this might be the one. if I pull these late game (after Jabba is theoretically dead) this could totally turn the tables if my opponent's not expecting it. Again though, a super dead card early and it's always a little sad to spoil your neat tech card by discarding them to reroll. I'm down to one at the moment, which may eventually become another mitigation card.

Cards I considered including, but didn't:

  • Lotho Minor Junkers: Another card I love but this is just not the right deck for it. Maybe I'll make a Jabba support deck sometime in the future.

  • Separatist Landing Craft: See above. I just don't make the money.

  • Prized Goods: Someday, I will find a use for this card.

  • Wrist Rockets: Nice card with decent sides, but I think it belongs in a deck with Jabba and Phasma. Yellow only is also a sad restriction, but maybe I'll switch the Force Wave for this if I want the targeted damage.

  • Resilient: Mitigate Jabba's die TWICE, I dare you.

  • Friend or Foe: This card is pretty cool in Jabba and Bib since it's a dice reroll for either you or an opponent while also being a guaranteed shield on your characters (no damage sides) but it's non-odd, and isn't that good on the rest of our lineup, so I left it on the side.

Would love any thoughts or criticisms. Let's get some Jabba talk going!
