Strog 885

Hello guys, Strog from the Coruscant Swoop Gang here to give you a new deck that I hope you'll enjoy as it is unique and really fun to play.

The idea

It has been now since Way of the Force that there is a joke in my team about playing Built to Last and I felt that it was the time to go for it with the release of Youngling in Spark of Hope.

The goal of the deck is to ramp fast with strong upgrades that you will never lose and as your character only have 4 HPs then you can have some nasty redeploy tricks.

Fast Worlds report

It took me a long time to decide what I would play at Worlds as I don't like to play meta decks and prefer unique and genuine decks that I worked on for a long time. I finally decided to go for this one as I was sure that I will surprise most of my opponents what is first a good thing for my deckbuilder soul and second a advantage for my matches.

Round 1 : Palp / Jabba + Lightsaber Mastery - A fair game but I managed to ramp and have much more power than my opponent - Win

Round 2 : Aphra / Grievous / Sentinel - Triple zero came only on turn 2 and indirect damages don't hurt my deck that much as I can spread them on 5 characters - Win

Round 3 : Choppers droids Fateful - A terrible game where I didn't draw weapons round1 even if I played both my respite in this round, nonetheless it did not really matter as my opponent killed the Jedi round1 and 2 younglings round2 with action cheats at each round, we all know this feeling - Lose

Round 4 : Jabba / Wat / Sentinel - Actually I managed to play against my teamate Tony that was the only French coming with me at Worlds, he knows how works my deck so no surprise. I had no upgrades round1 and he got Umbaran then later he played an Embargo correctly. - Lose

Round 5 : Kylo / Rey - I had a really strong start with crazy rolls and I managed to kill Kylo round2 before he could resolve all his dice. - Win

Round 6 : Han droids Fateful - It was just impossible to play against action cheats and mean streets, I could not mitigate anything while he fleed the scene claiming round1, game was already over. - Lose and out

Round 7 : 4Lom / Grievous / Sentinel - Sorry but I don't really remember this one. - Win

Round 8 : Kylo Rey - Same here, surely the last games after getting out are confused in my head ^^ - Win

Last thoughts : I'm really happy with my performance and felt like I could have make it if there were not so much action cheats in droids deck and if I did not face my teamate. The weakness of the deck is focus and sequencing, you need proper time to get all things done correctly and droids just break all this. I knew droids were above everything but I wanted to play something unique and I'm glad I did.

About deckbuilding

There is different possibility of deckbuilding for this team but not so much if you consider your restrictions :

  • You want unique upgrades to get the money back and the redeploy from Built to Last
  • You want blue upgrades to use Youngling's power action.

I'm not gonna list every single card and talk about it as some are obvious and getting upgrades that fill these restrictions are mandatory.

Noticable things :

  • Luke Skywalker's Lightning Rod and Ezra Bridger's Lightsaber are the best opener as they are free and let you manage your sequencing easier.
  • Adding Niman Mastery is really important even if you don't have redeploy on them, this deck lacks of focus so you need it a lot if you don't want to rely on your rolls. Play Niman Mastery on your youngling with 2 shields and overwrite it later with a unique upgrade.
  • I tried Jedi Holocron and I really liked it, I removed it for a second Into The Garbage Chute as removals are mandatory to survive and sequence correctly but if I could then I would add it back in the deck as drawing is really good for this deck.
  • Yoda's Lightsaber gives you a ressource :D
  • Only 2 yellow upgrades as they are not cheaper with the youngling but are still really powerful.

Wombo Combo

You are playing Blue/Yellow hero and having 5 characters so Diplomatic Protection is a must-have. Your characters have so few HPs that it is really easy to use it and to force your opponent to switch target as he won't want to give you 8 shields.

Now that you have this terrible upgrade you can realise that Spark of Hope has realeased the perfect combo for it : Destiny Fulfilled. Even if your opponent switch target then you can still kill yourself and gain more shields by the way.

Finally Qui-Gon Jinn's Spirit comes in and you realised that a perfect combo can deal 12 damages and snipe almost any chracter.

Try it, Love it.

It's all about redeploy

When all your upgrades have redeploy you can then play completly different and sequencing becomes way more interesting. It is also more complicated for your opponent that does not want to kill a character and give you some free rolls.

Here is the best part, killing your-self will give you the best ballzy sensations of destiny. You can still resolve a die to kill your yougling with 3 upgrades to redeploy and roll it again with another character. Add Destiny Fulfilled in this story and you don't even lose HPs.

With all these upgrades you can reach some incredible dmg potential at the end of a game, I usually finish with 7-8 upgrades for devastating blows.

Noticable things part 2 :

Final words

Sequencing is the key with your redeploy weapons and your low health characters, it can take you quite a long time to find the feeling of this deck but once you get it you should love it.

I hope you'll give it a try, this is a nice 1.5 deck and I would love to answer any question you may have.

How often were you able to pull off the big combo with Qui-Gon's Spirit?

I was round 8, I had no idea what to do. Thanks for trading cards with me!

@Vika I think I only managed to do the full combo at 12 dmg twice. As your opponent can hit your shields then it reduces the special power but I often resolve it for 5-6 dmg which is still pretty nice :)

@yote501 Was nice to meet you and trade some cards in foreign language too :)
