Here in Brazil we’re having several tournaments over the country this weekend. Our local distributor got us a tournament kit with 12 lunch party kit (Rey Promo - Aurebesh, deck box and poster) for the TOP12 plus a pair of Gen Con Promos for the TOP2. Yesterday I managed to register in a tournament 50 miles away from home.

There was 13 registered players, all of them are awesome people with the most unusual decks. There was a eGeneral Grievous/Jango Fett deck dispatching brutal damage, there was a hero mill using Patience with 8 dice, there was a eFinn/Poe Dameron resolving specials with AT-ST and Launch Bay, and the was no eGeneral Veers/eJango Fett :) All of us were focusing on having fun and enjoying.

I will talk a little about the deck first and then I will proceed to the tournament report. This deck was inspired by Roncamp08’s amazing deck, I recommend reading his strategy too if you’re interested about a Captain Phasma deck.

The deck:

There are two cards I think that are priceless in this deck: DH-17 Blaster Pistol and He Doesn't Like You. The blaster is an one cost card with 3 faces what more can I say about it? Your opponent won’t care about this cheap pistol and you have a great upgrade and a resource for a control card. He Doesn't Like You allows you to use a Holdout Blaster or F-11D Rifle and still control a dice, wonderful! There are two situations about this card: 1, you will almost always have a bad face to remove or 2, you will have a God roll that, even leaving the board without control, you’ll be ahead in the damage race.

There are two rules there I use for resource when I’m running this deck. 1, never leave your pool empty, in the initial actions of each round I will always leave a in my pool, unless I have He Doesn't Like You and already activated a character. 2, never have more than one in you pool, this surplus means that you can improve your board in order to be more aggressive. Play On The Hunt, DH-17 Blaster Pistol or overwrite one of them for a better weapon.

Mos Eisley Spaceport is here only because no one likes it and I love starting with shields.

On the first round I will always activate Captain Phasma first and pray for a , or . Then play a cheap or redeployable upgrade on Bala-Tik. Always leave First Order Stormtrooper in order to remove a die or activate him when your opponent has resolved most of his dice. Every subsequent turn you are aiming for 4 damage and denying your opponents actions or 7+ damage.

The tournament:

The tournament was structured to have four 35 minutes swiss rounds.

1st round: vs eFinn/eAdmiral Ackbar- Win. I never faced a deck like this before and I was a bit nervous. I focused on Admiral Ackbar cause I want to get rid of his sides. First round I flanked Ackbar’s focus and Trooper helped me split damage between him and Bala. Second round I killed Ackbar and reactivated Bala, Finn doesn’t had a chance, diyng in the subsequent round. I used two faces this game, both hit It's a Trap!.

2nd round: vs. eJabba the Hutt/3Count Dooku- Win. I know this deck was focusing on Crime Lord every strong character then smash the remaining ones. My opponent was doing an aggressive mulling and when I saw both on Captain Phasma I had to use them. Guess what, Ace in the Hole + Crime Lord. That was an extremely lucky play. Fist turn I only got an F-11D Rifle special as damage, that turned on one wound and one discard for Count Dooku. Second round I got Jetpack and a , helping me to hurt Dooku hard (Jabba the Huttwas full of , so I focused Count Dooku, maybe a dumb mistake). Backup Muscle helped me to kill Dooku on the next round, the reactivation of Bala left Jabba shieldless and with 3 damage on him, not bad! Next round was a full armed Phasma vs almost empty Jabba, Phasma got it but I almost got milled.

3rd round: vs. Poe Dameron/eFinn – Win. I was really scared about this deck, this opponent was an excellent player who uses Poe’s special for tons of damage. This was the only match that I chose my battlefield over his (Emperor's Throne Room). This game was about controlling Poe’s die, first round he fired two damage on my trooper, second round I flanked it and in the third round Electroshock saved my ass. I dealt 4 damage each turn on Poe then Finn was an easy target.

4th round: vs eAdmiral Ackbar/Hired Gun/Hired Gun – Win. This deck was played by a really close friend and I was feeling bad about this match, we trained a lot together. This match was fast, my dice were hot and his just hit and . First round Ackbar got 6 damage. Second round Ackbar was dead and the Bala’s reactivation took half of a hired gun life. Third had he played Second Chance and some shield on the dying hired gun, so I focused the other one, killing him within two rounds and finishing the other.

I walked out of there with a Gen Con Kylo Ren (just waiting for the new Darth Vader (SoR)), lots of new friends and my Rey promo was donated to the 13th player.

I want to thank you all NewStation Players, Roncamp08 for inspiring me, TinyGrimes for the excellent videos, Knights of Ren and The Chance Cube for the most awesome podcasts.

Thank you @Roncamp08! Phasma helped me on another Tournament, only lost for a Jango/eBala/Trooper with two god rolls on Jango. Took second and a GenCon Rey :) Funny fact: got 3 boosters and pulled another Phasma from one of them.
