Book 1394

This is an update to an update to an older deck that surprised me in how well it could endure into the long game and eventually steal a win. Starting out as Han/Finn, then Han and two Hired Guns, we now have two new thieves in Maz Kanata - Pirate Queen and Outer Rim Smuggler. While the Hired Guns were hardy and could dole out damage, that one resource cost was a steeper price than I first expected, even with all the money in the deck.

Our two new characters provide a number of key improvements. Maz provides focus results and speed against decks with a lot of mitigation. The truth is, this deck doesn't pack a huge punch out of the gate, so this matters more than one might think. Outer Rim Smuggler provides us with two damage sides, a useful money-making ability, and a discard--more on this later.

The strength of this deck is now nutty with the current ruling on Ammo Belt and Second Chance. Pair this with Han's already silly ability, Hunker Down, your battlefield, and a decent amount of die removal, and it makes it pretty tough to kill off your team.

This build has a lot more control options than prior ones, beyond the annoying immortality combo above. Electroshock, Let The Wookie Win, Unpredictable, and Loth-Cat and Mouse all provide die manipulation. We also have DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol for soft control, not to mention my favorite and much-more-powerful-than-it-seems support card in Play the Odds.

In addition to die manip, we have a number of discard effects. Friends in Low Places and Maz's Goggles provide us with information in what to expect from our foes, as well as limiting their options. Goggles also pairs well with Play the Odds. We have one Thermal Detonator to abuse with our battlefield and potentially Ammo Belt. Smuggler also has a single discard side, as does the dreaded Millennium Falcon.

As mentioned, the deck can pump out quite a bit of resources. Han and Goggles both have two resource sides. Smuggler can give you a steady one credit advantage each turn. Play the Odds and Long Con also push a resource advantage.

And that's pretty much it. Is it tier 1? Unlikely, but it's not a bad little deck and it is a lot of fun if you are more control-minded player.
