Blue Villains might have come out winners of the SoR, but I feel that a few nice additions to Hero Force users have brought the Qui-Gon/Rey build close to tier1.

This is my second version of this deck, with some cards being removed after playtesting. A card that was tested out, but had to go was Protective Mentor because it rarely came into use.

The strategy is pretty simple, but requires a bit of planning in your rounds.

You want to see a Jedi Robes in your starting hand and preferably with a Vibroknife and a Force Speed sitting next to it. That would make for your first round to be Jedi Robes on Rey, two and an extra action, followed by Vibro Knife to replace Jedi Robes, extra action and Force Speed, then roll out Rey. Sit back with Qui-Gon Jinn, and wait for your opponent. You wanna see if he is going for removing the Vibro Knife die, it doesn't really matter so much what you roll, as long as it stays in the pool. If you have Your Eyes Can Deceive You down, then wait for as long as possible to roll out Qui-Gon, you want maximum effect from your support, turning those high damage sides to blanks. 2 Your Eyes Can Deceive You can be extremely distruptive, with just one showing on either of your dice being able to out two of your opponents dice.

I think cards like Synchronicity and Guard were created specifically for the Qui-Gon / Rey combo. With Rey's poor dice sides even a card like Caution can make her shine. Remove her 1 side to give Qui-Gon 3 , and with his special it normally means damage.

If playing against /Vibro decks, use shields constantly to give damage - all melee damage will bypass the shields anyways, so maximize the damage output of your deck, which is not all that impressive until you put down Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber - even with your damage being unblockable, you are not going to burst out damage like Vader/Royal Guard or similar.

This is a deck that is in for the long haul, but surprisingly consistent.

A FEW CARD DETAILS:

Force Speed is such an amazing card, if used correctly. If you use the special on Force Speed to reroll dice twice, well, then it's mediocre at best, but if you use Force Speed to make the best of even bad dice rolls, then it can really be a make or break card. Force Speed into a Destiny or Synchronicity before resolving that or on Qui-Gon for damage, that's when those 2 actions shine.

Jedi Robes is only really useful in the early stages of the game, and is too slow when Rey dies. Usually I mulligan for the Jedi Robes, equip it on Rey in the first round, gain 2 , overwrite with Vibro or Makashi Training.

Lightsaber and Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber - the distribution used to be 2 / 1, but has now changed to 1 / 2, mostly due to the on Luke's Lightsaber. The can be invaluable late game and with Echo Base can still provide damage if needed. The redeploy on Lightsaber was what led to the original distribution, but by the time you get a chance to throw the lightsaber into the fray, you already know which character your opponent is targeting first.

Makashi Training is a sleeper - I'm not totally convinced, but feel that it has a place in the deck due to its action. Removing one die showing can be a lifesaver against heavy hitting decks.

Vibroknife is probably going to be a stable in many decks, just as Holdout Blaster is in decks. The ability to bypass shields is just too good to not use.

Destiny is such a powerful card - removing Rey's modified and for a Lightsaber played outta hand - huge swing in your favor.

Same thing with Guard, which can actually make bad dice (which we all know that Rey has a plenty) very very useful.

High Ground and Synchronicity are both very situational, but the conditions can more often than not be met with this deck. It's really a matter of optimizing the effect of every single die roll you make. and are not just damage and protection, but it's suddenly unblockable damage out of hand on top of that!

[EDIT]: I'm torn when it comes to High Ground. It's an amazing card, but I often see my opponent claim the battlefield because I often leave Qui-Gon to activate late in the round due to Your Eyes can Deceive You. That card has saved me on several occasions. It might go out and be replaced by Overconfidence.

It is still work in progress, and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

[EDITED] 07.05.2017: 1 Lightsaber replaced by 2nd Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber. And tested the deck with 1 Lightsaber, 1 Luke's Lightsaber and 1 Rey's Staff, and must admit that Rey's Staff really came in handy (in particular the , although it is a weakness that it doesn't have a side, so it doesn't work well with Your Eyes Can Deceive You).

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

I always like running two Luke light saber to get one early game. Then wait and for the light saber to overwrite when the character is about to die. I also like Jedi Robes. Everyone is tossing them but it has always been one of my favorites. It binds all things would be a good two of and you can run one Your Eyes. 2 Riposte is over kill. Plus you want shields around for your Synchronicity which looks great in this deck.

Enfantterrible 171

I started out with It binds all Things, but felt it slowed me down a bit, it would often sit in my hand and end up being discarded for rerolls.

I'm a huge fan of Riposte. With Qui-Gon it's most likely 3 dmg. out of hand, and essentially gives him 4 dmg. sides on his die.

Maybe 1 Your Eyes Can Deceive You is enough, but damn I love that card :)

2 Luke's Lightsaber is definitely being considered!

Thx for the comment :)

DJRAZZ 110

Yes Riposte is one of my favorites. O cost is always good for me and kinda my thing. Big risk--big reward. High ground can be very frustrating if you lose the initial battle field war at the start of the game. But it is a great card. It binds all things is slow, deterring and situational. But until we get a better way to pump resources in the light side, it is the best choice. I am always thankful to have it. I hate Data Pad.

Enfantterrible 171

I'm definitely not a Datapad kind'a'guy :D

I'm actually thinking of including a Rey's Staff to the deck. I know ppl like to hate on it, but it would actually slot in well here.

DJRAZZ 110

What is there to hate about Rey's Staff? It is a good early game card like Jedi Robe. I get so frustrated by Luke's Light Saber.

Other than redeploy, which is always awesome, Light Saber is just bad. Luke's light Saber should have been so good that Light Saber is not an option. Two things can happen they can make things better. An errata change on Luke's light saber, which won't happen. Or maybe we will get an Anakin or Obi-One Light Saber to make things right. Kylo's Light Saber ability should have been reserved for Vader's Light Saber.

Enfantterrible 171

@DJRAZZ I think it's been the prevalence of 2 character decks that has made Lightsaber the choice for most ppl, exactly because of redeploy. Put it on eRey, let her measly dice come to good use, and when she dies, redeploy to the other character.

I just finished a couple of games with Rey's Staff in the deck, and it rocks.

Enfantterrible 171

Ah - not to mention that Rey's Staff is Grey and not Blue - which means that with a Binds they Lightsaber is as cheap.

Widied 1

The one spot that i cant seem to decide on is force training vs jedi robes. It sounds like you are very pro robes but training seems to have the better long term die?

Widied 1

Also one big difference ive seen in your buil from many others is the -2 upgrades for 2x destiny. Do you feel the trade off is good? I was thinking of destiny at a x1 for 13 upgrades

Enfantterrible 171

@Widied Force Training is definitely a great card - and it has been in and out of this deck. Jedi Robes though is really a powerful starting upgrade though. It could mean with a caution in hand as well that you'd start out with 2 shields on Rey and 3 shields on Qui-Gon. I basically see Jedi Robes as a faster version of Defensive Stance, which is not in the deck - it's cheaper, because it's going to be overwritten by a Vibro, Lightsaber or other force upgrade, AND it doesn't take away an action because it's played on Rey. I never play it on Qui-Gon!

Now, one of the "problems" with a lot of other Qui-Gon/Rey decks I've seen around is their reliance on damage from the shields on Qui-Gon, but it's not going to win you games, it's going to keep you characters alive for longer, but you also need to dish out damage ... for that reason I've included 2 Destiny, which allows me to play an early Lightsaber, Luke's or 2nd Vibroknife (usually played on Qui-Gon to build the board state with him). Obviously nothing is certain, and I've been through games never drawing a Destiny, and if it comes late game (when you only have 1 character), it is pretty much a dead card.

Love this deck. Have you thought of maybe trying to replace some of the double events with "The Force is my Ally" This used with rey could take out FN decks very quickly. swdestinydb.com

Enfantterrible 171

@brokenmouse I think My Ally Is The Force is crazy good, but also quite costly - the return would most likely be 2 resources for 2 damage (3 if you have a Lightsaber down or are playing with Rey's Staff), otherwise it would have to be combo'ed with Destiny... hmm ... I'll try it out tonight - it might actually work!

Thanks for the comment :D

Enfantterrible 171

@brokenmouse I'd probably remove 1 High Ground (this is the event card which is the most situational - with Synchronicity much more likely to meet the conditions). I prefer not to rush Qui-Gon in, since there's crazy good dice control when he activates with Your Eyes Can Deceive You.

brokenmouse 26

@Enfantterrible Want to trade steam names for TTS? Do some play testing ?

Enfantterrible 171

@brokenmouse ... I know it's crazy, but I actually don't play on TTS, only IRL so far :D

People hate on Binds a lot. But if this deck is sorta a mid aggro and in it for the long haul, It is nice to know I have it. This deck cannot overwrite much with all the great upgrade cards. I also wonder about Force Throw I know it is a staple and it does have an amazing ability, but people were using it with Awakening. I think a second MT could be worth it. I also like Protective Mentor almost over Deflect. Deflect is such a good card but it always bugs me to have to put a card in for one kinda deck. We have more options now. I am on the fence with light sabers but for the same reason as Binds, security.
