Nice to see hondo yoda still getting there, so many people still telling me that you can play around hondo but consistant top cut finishes say otherwise.

ArrowBrookGaming 673

Playing around Hondo seems like it's an easy counter, but it is not so simple when there are decks heavily based on churning out upgrades! Throw in some easily usable disrupt sides and Hondo starts to look less and less avoidable!!

stranglebat 832

That and with Impusilve the 2 disrupt into special chain sometimes makes playing around him a non option anyway.

I got a lot of reps in with this deck before my regional win with it and i still think its got a solid place in the metagame. The strongest advantage i feel it has other than flexiablity is that it puts serious mental load on the opponent making them have to decide over and over whether they can afford to pay you off.

Love this pair. I like the inclusion of Maz’s Goggles and Riposte (although I like 2x Hidden Motive over Mislead and an overconfidence. Less spot blue that way as well)

ArrowBrookGaming 673

Yeah, ran into a couple of "spot a blue" issues yesterday...might also look into verpine over obi-wan's saber

Dave Sharona 601

I hadn’t even CONSIDERED Verpine Sniper Rifle, and I think you’re right about swapping Obis Saber. Damage upside is only one less but it’s a 2 drop with no color restriction. I will be trying that out. I always feel like the games I get the Saber out and shield ramp I probably was going to win those anyway.

I’m also using Double Dealing as a 2x. I only really need to get one out but that one is usually a huge game changer

stranglebat 832

@Dave Sharona I didnt have access to rivals at my regional but on the artificery article i wrote on the deck i had that exact change in mind for mislead and over confidence for 2x hidden motive.

I would be less inclined to swap obi saber tho the extra one damage was easily mutlipled when used with cunning looking at 4 v6 or 6v9 damage and the extra 1 shield off the chain when your just down to yoda means a lot. Plus the 2sheild sides are quite often worth while especially if when you catch someone out with riposte. It would be a meta call tho as the cheaper value etc could be more attractive if you have alot of disrupt decks or mirrors etc

Dave Sharona 601

I hear that. I can’t rememeber anyone going after Hondo first though in my experience

But the cunning ramp is real. I just as often cunning my lightbow and/or force wave. I will definitely test both. Trying to decide if I can drop Double Dealing to fit riposte/Maz Goggles in

stranglebat 832

imo wave is a must to be relevant vs 3 char decks and bow is a must to be relevant vs shields. The play room is really only obi saber and lone op etc. Google definately has a place for ripping early drawn ntmto and jumps etc, in my regionals we werent expecting much sabine and so i omitted it. Riposte is super valuable for adding to the clock against mill and just finishing characters in general wouldnt run without 1.

Depending on my opponent i would sometimes bait people into going hondo by starting 3 shields on yoda. Slap a cunning down and they hate him. And some decks will think they can get him first and hope you dont hit 2nd chance.

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@Dave Sharona- I never felt starved for resources...having access to Riposte is so good. Opponents often take damage until their character is close to lethal before paying Hondo's cost. Riposte can finish those character's off. Its also great to have in there as a potential rebel target for later in games.

@stranglebat- I agree. Most of the cards are imperative in my opinion...we are also constantly toying around with the Obi Saber spot.

remorhaz 14

great job! personally I like thermal D over force wave because its lets you go to the two discard or the special and only requires a spot yellow to play and I hate having to hit myself in a close game. it also lets you threaten a mill win fairly easily. no redeploys is dangerous too. ive been trying to fit in a canto bight pistol for yoda because the conventional wisdom seems to be kill yoda and pay off Hondo in the mid to late game.

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@remorhaz- I'm not sure about thermal detonator, as once it's used it will be discarded. Against hero vehicles, or other three/four character decks, I need the constant threat of being to force wave every turn.

airgigio 8

@Dave Sharona : I’m also using Double-Dealing as a 2x.It's usually a huge game changer

I think so: every time i have one Double-Dealing in first hand the game is win: you have too many resource to play all the upgrade or the removal!!!

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@airgigio I definitely like the card, but is it redundant? I never find myself starved for resource.

airgigio 8

I know that this is not starved for resource but having a lot can let you use specialYoda for shield.... WHat do you think about Hasty Exit? Removal for free

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@airgigio - Hasty Exit is another very good card, but I do not think it is necessary here. I also do not want cards that only work against damage sides. A card I am considering adding is Hidden Motive.

airgigio 8

Hidden Motive is already in :-) I think to give away Hasty Exit

Sometimes (i have to do the definitive choice) I prefer switch Obi-Wan Kenobi's Lightsaber with Canto Bight Pistol: no restriction - special 2/3 damage - redeploy (very useful). Waht do you think?

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@airgigio - I've also considered Verpine Rifle in that spot as well. There are games where I run into trouble with Obi Wan's blue only restriction. Verpine does not have redeploy, but it does have the added benefit of only costing 2 resources.

Tilk 8

Any advice on match vs Sabine?

I wasnt running Vandalize on my version and find chance cube or high generation resc decks are a prob.

Tilk 8

Also, can u give some review on your regional matches, what were you expecting, what pro/cons did u consider and find?

Much appreciated!

stranglebat 832

@Tilkfor sabine you have to prioritise proactive defense like shields, 2nd chance and illusion.

The high resource gen decks tend to be the ones you mill. you trade removal with them and they keep paying you to keep your uprgrades on etc

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@Tilk www.arrowbrookgaming.com

I go over my matchups in my article...I agree with @stranglebat on Sabine. She is frequently resource starved herself, so just shield and second chance/force illusions up. You'll be able to resolve your damage against her consistently.

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@ReconVs I wanted to add in additional mitigation, pick a battlefield that would encourage my opponent to let me start with the extra shields, and Yoda enables me to resolve all of my special dice anyway.

Pearl Yeti 977

Nice to see Yoda/Hondo taking wins from Australia to Connecticut (wherever that is).

ArrowBrookGaming 673

@Pearl Yeti - Thanks, it's right next door to Australia haha!

Tilk 8

Cards I greatly miss from previously playing Warsaw's version are double dealing and Fast Hands. Both smooth any game and shine on mirror. What do u think about it? What spots would you free if adding any of them?

Also Hidden motive is free to play but does not ensure die removal. I think in a deck with gd resc generation its better to ensure removal.

stranglebat 832

@Tilk Fast hands is a meta call, if you are being hammered by removal then you can take it over Impulsive as they share the same slot. Double dealing is pretty superflous though in my opninion.

The point of hidden motive is that its free to play. It makes it a great mulligan target because in those first couple of rounds you dont have that money if you want to play a Lightbow or Cunning. This gives you the option of representing removal early game even when you don't have any money left which is invaluable.

Schattenriss 1

@TilkI agree with you regarding double dealings.I had a regional tournament in Germany and made it to the final with Yoda/Hondo. The final has been a mirror match up. I lost 0-2, mainly because of double dealings.
