I think this is the best midrange deck in the game right now. It has answers for most matchups, and can go aggro when you need it to. The ultimate mix of power and flexibility.

I prefer to focus on generating resources early, so we can play those sweet upgrades on Kylo then hopefully Rise Again when he gets some damage on him.

This Store Champ had 12 people in attendance. Kudos to the team at Emerald City Comics for running a smooth tournament, and respect to all the players there.

I went 3-2 in Swiss, and squeaked into the top cut facing two of my previous opponents there.

First I'll go over card choices that made a difference, then we'll jump into the matchups.

Ewok Village - Endor to deal with shield decks. Heroes hate it so they likely pick their BF, which is fine because shields are great on Kylo for Snoke's Power action.

All your favorite blue upgrades are here Ancient, Crossguard, Shoto, Force Speed, and Force Illusion. I can not stress how important it is to get a 2 cost weapon in your opening hand. You don't need the 1 cost removal early, because Kylo is beefy and can heal. So go ahead and mulligan for them.

I cut Vibroknife in favor of a second Heirloom Lightsaber. We have enough shield hate, and second heirloom is so valuable for redeploy and base damage sides. This leaves us vulnerable to the Kylo mirror, buy I think we have answers for that.

Maul's Lightsaber and Dagger of Mortis are one ofs. This is partially because I only own one of each, but I would recommend the same for anyone. Maul's stick is powerful but situational. Best with a late game Rise Again to really put the pressure on. Dagger is unique so 2 seems like over kill. In a pinch you can Lightsaber Pull these weapons if you really need them for your strategy.

I choose not to use torment because we can generate resources so quickly between It Binds, Snoke sides, and Snoke Power Action. Torment feels like a slow card tempo wise, and I'd rather get things going by playing upgrades and rolling Kylo in.

It Binds All Things is an auto include in most blue melee decks. It's especially important for the midrange style of play because your goal is to make dat money and load up.

For our removal package we have Feel Your Anger, Overconfidence, and Hidden Motive. These shouldn't come as a surprise. I don't think you need any more than this. Your goal is to get weapons, hit hard, and heal. We just have the good stuff to get us out of the real sticky situations. I tested Doubt the night before, but it always felt bad to play.

Intimidate is a one of to deal with shields. I like it better than Frighten in this deck because it's free, and we need the money for other stuff.

Lightsaber Pull is a one of. I feel like it's helpful for specific situations. You may want to overwrite with heirloom, or heal with Ancient Lightsaber. or get a second Shoto for that double shield bonanza. Honestly, it's not necessary, and I'd really like to test the deck without it.

Lightsaber Throw and CQA are crucial for any Kylo deck.

Rise Again is the MVP of the day. In both top cut matchups I had games where I healed for 10 with it. Keeping Kylo alive is so important. Also, don't hesitate to play it if Kylo is near lethal damage. I misplayed by getting cute and trying to put an upgrade in the discard pile. Big mistake, and it made one swiss matchup unwinnable for me.

Okay, time for matchups.

Round 1| Luke3 Rey2 | Win

Ramp hard round 1. I think Ancient and Heirloom. We went back and forth, but opponent's removal couldn't stand up to damage that was able to provide. He did have an amazing Swiftness into Concentrate play that blew me up, but I stabilized and closed it out.

Round 2 | Luke3 Leia2 | Win

Usually I have a tough time with this matchup. Yoda goes down early because of Snoke Power action for 4 damage. Leia rolled sub par the rest of the game. Opponent played as best as possible, but Kylo was playing upgrades with ease and hitting hard.

Round 3 | Luke3 Rey2 | Loss

Misplay city on my part. I had Heirloom Lightsaber in opening hand, and mulligan it away to try for a 2 cost weapon. I figure I'm drawing 3, and 40% of the deck is weapons. No luck, and I didn't draw a weapon until round 3. To make it worse in round 2 Kyloe got sniped by a Riposte that I could have avoided. I chose to discard a Force Illusion, because I wanted to play Rise Again next action and get the value. YUUUGE mistake. Opponent continued to capitalize and close it out

Round 4 | Snoke Thrawn | Win

The ramp was strong with me. An AT-ST came out early and rolled 5 ranged every time. But, once with no resources hurt the oppenent bad. That was the only vehicle to get played as I used disrupt to keep him off resources. Thrawn goes, down and returns after Dark Ritual. My healing and ramp with Rise Again is too strongk and we close with lots of melee dice.

Round 5 | Yoda Hondo | Loss

Opponent was a fellow Orlando player. He's a great player who I rarely best (seriously he's beat me with Elite Obi-Wan and single die Rey in the SOR meta). He whooped me with all the Yondo shenanigans.

TOP CUT I'm pretty sure our matchups were randomized instead of normal seeding, so that may have weirded the pairings up a lot.

Semifinals | Luke3](/card/07056) Rey2 | 2-0 Opponent was the player from Round 1 in Swiss. He does a lot of early damage in game 1 and gets Rey set up with double Shotos. After he claims I was able to do enough damage thanks to , , and a timely Lightsaber Throw to snipe Rey off the board before she could become more powerful than I could possibly imagine.

Game 2 was won purely thanks to Rise Again 2x.

Finals | | Yoda Hondo | 2-1 Opponent was my boi from round 5 in Swiss. Game 1 he legit gave me a incredibly generous take back. We were joking and having casual conversation in the early game, and I made a big oversight. I had Force Speed showing, and neglected to resolve it before rolling Kylo. It was a close game, but I was able to close it.

Game 2 He schooled me. Round 2 he used Force Speed Yoda and Cunning to do 9 damage to Kylo to wipe him off the board. I scooped to next game.

Game 3 was intense! He had me on the ropes with Kylo at 9 or 10 damage. End of round I have Snokus showing 2 with Shoto and Crossguard in the pool. I have 1 resource available available. Instead of into a measly 3 , I go for the miracle play. into 2 and pray for Rise Again in the draw next round. I discard down to 0 and draw 5. With sweat dripping from my brow I peak at the final card that I've drawn. The voice of cinematic Snoke reverberates through my consciousness "Darkness rises, and the light to meet it". The Rise Again goes off and air horns fill the room. After some excellent play, Kylo's dathrattle gives Snoke the redeploy weapons to finish what he started. Another Rise Again and 2x Heirloom seals the deal.

Try All In

@drbearsec sounds like a good idea. With that focus could be a blowout play.

What are your thoughts on Dark Ritual in this deck?

revel.games 78

@KefkaZ I considered it. Ultimately I think Rise Again is better. It helps you stay in the game rather than trying to pull out a come from behind victory. If you Dark Ritual Kylo he comes back exhausted with no upgrades. When you Rise again, you keep all your upgrades and play an extra one from discard. Also both characters are blue so you can rise again either of them.
