So, after having listened to the Knights of Ren podcast, I decided to give Rainbow FN a go. Having played quite a lot of FUNkar, I was pretty comfortable with the idea of a 3 character FN-deck, although the deck-tech in this version differs somewhat from the FUNkar deck.

First main difference is the one-mindedness of the deck. This an aggro deck, pure and simple. There are small nice features (talking about that later), but there are no traces of the control and choke effects of the FUNkar. No Imperial Inspection, no discard for , no robbing your opponent of speed with (in my FUNkar build I even included Prized Possession and Crime Lord). This is about setting up an early game kill with FN-2199, and a midgame kill with whoever is left standing.

The deck can deal with various scenarios in different ways:

  1. Your opponent targets down FN-2199. Solution: Load FN-2199 with redeployable weapons (Holdout Blaster, Z6 Riot Control Baton, Lightsaber - I left out Gaffi Stick here because it will most likely leave the deck in my next iteration), use The Best Defense... mercilessly to mitigate. Once FN is near death, play The Price of Failure and move weapons to either Royal Guard or Bala-Tik. Set your board state for a strong midgame.

  2. Opponents focuses down Bala-Tik. Solution: Roll out Bala-Tik at any given opportunity, take shields whenever possible, use to focus into to build as strong a FN as possible. When Bala-Tik is near death play The Price of Failure to ready FN for a swift one-round kill on your opponents strongest character.

  3. Opponent focuses down Royal Guard. Solution: Well ... this is really what you want. Royal Guard is merely serving as a distraction from Bala-Tik and FN.

The Upgrade suite can be changed ... I'm still wondering whether Gaffi Stick is the better choice (mainly because of the and the +2, and to some extent the , that can be used in conjunction with the Royal Guard die), or if it should be exchanged in favor of F-11D Rifle. The latter works well with Bala-Tik.

If vehicle decks turn out as popular as the rumors suggest, I'd definitely recommend to add an additional Rocket Launcher in favor of the Flame Thrower.

Obviously, Vibroknife, Vibroknucklers and Z6 Riot Control Baton are untouchable. The Z6 is as good as it gets when it comes to weapons upgrades.

Aftermath is there to generate loads of money ... You'll most likely only play one, and more often than not use the 2nd copy to reroll dice. That's fine. The 2nd copy is there to make sure you get it.

The event suite is a combination of mitigation, and a bit of deck-tech. to protect against Endless $wag decks and negate Rise Agains and hardcast Force Upgrades. Boundless Ambition (which this deck might need 2 off) is for that round where you The Price of Failure a character to ensure that you have a full hand to either run weapons through FN or to reroll your dice pool and maximizing your round.

Enrage is VITAL to this deck. You really REALLY REALLY wanna see this in your starting hand. HARD MULLIGAN for it.

Your perfect starting hand would be:

  1. Enrage, 2. Vibroknife, 3. VibroKnuckler, 4. Z6 Riot Baton, 5. Doubt/He Doesn't Like you.

That would make for a first turn where you play: Vibro Knife on FN (resolve), then ambush into Enrage (unless you resolve a ). Then Vibroknucklers and Ambush into Z6-Riot Baton. Your opponent could potentially from this have taken 5 damage and you are yet to roll out a character!
