This is my version of Poe/Maz that I took to the North American Championship at Gencon and ended up in the Top 8 with, eventually losing to Brian Lindberg's version of Poe/Maz.

Frozen Wastes is obviously a meta call and was not ideal for the decks I was playing; ETR would have been the better option. However without Frozen Wastes I probably would have lost in round 2 to a Palpatine deck that rolled ridiculously well. And with a battlefield that I wasn't terribly sad about losing I was free to take my opponents' in matches where I won the roll off.

Friendly Fire is obviously a meta call as well, but it was just obscure enough to catch people off guard. FN decks with Rocket Launcher dice on the table really don't like seeing it. Sensor Placement flat out won me some games, like when I used it to resolve a Force Throw special and throw a Palpatine 2 shield dice at him.

I really like C3PO and Maz's Goggles in this deck but can't find room to put in two of them. I chose Field Medic over Dug In because of the proliferation of Vibroknife.

Ultimately I think the meta is going to be seeing a lot more Rainbow 9s decks in the time up until EaW launches and, although I don't imagine I'll be playing anymore Poe/Maz before that, if I was I would definitely find a spot for Friends in Low Places.

Knowing what you know now. How would you change the deck to optimize it for the North American Championship? I really like the inclusion of Sensor Placement. Based on what you have said I would personally make these changes.

Switch the battlefield to Emperor's Throne Room - Death Star II

-1 C-3PO (Don't need anymore because of the battlefield)

-2 Friendly Fire (Expensive cost for a very limited removal)

-1 New Orders (I think Hyperspace Jump fits better here, it does the same thing as well as give you another Retreat )

-2 Long Con (A card that requires 2 of to actually do anything I don't think is very good.)

+1 Hyperspace Jump

+2 Rocket Launcher

+2 Scavenge or Friends in Low Places

+1 Second Chance

Could also go up an additional Sensor Placement.

Thoughts?

@JoePa I definitely would have gone with another battlefield. Emperor's Throne Room - Death Star II is a pretty safe bet, but Cargo Hold - Eravana is another contender. Not only does it let you break a FN overwrite chain but you can also move equipment onto generally weaker characters. It's a toss up between them, but I honestly think I would have gotten more use out of Cargo Hold - Eravana.

Because of that, I would keep C-3PO in the deck. Even if I was running ETR I would probably still keep him. I run the deck less aggro than a lot of Poe/Maz players and I really like the flexibility that C-3PO provides.

I've tested Hyperspace Jump but prefer New Orders over it. New Orders gives you the chance to get the claim effect twice in a round, whereas Hyperspace Jump does not. I think 2 Retreat is enough without the inclusion of Jump.

If you wanted to drop the Long Cons I would understand, but I think you need to replace them with Logistics. Resources win games.

My best alteration would be:

You could also potentially drop Defensive Position for something like Loth-Cat and Mouse.

It's also possible to drop Planetary Uprising without getting hit too badly. I like it because it closes out games, but those resources might better be used on a DL-44 Heavy Blaster Pistol or playing out a vehicle.
