Round 1: Cad Bane xGreedo - Loss 0-1

I Killed Cad Bane on Round 2, but then Greedo finished off Sabine, and Ezra wasn’t able to finish off Greedo. I had a Second Chance in hand when Sabine was taken out, but activated Ezra instead of playing it because there was little or no damage in my opponent’s dice pool. They made good use of Take Flight, Bait and Switch and Unpredictable throughout the game.

Round 2: Obi-Wan Maz - Win 1-1

I killed off Obi-wan quickly, and then Maz didn’t have much of a chance. Notably, this was the “fair” variant of Obi Maz, and did not have Running Interference or Hyperspace Jump.

Round 3: Kylo(2p)-1 die Phasma(2p)-Preemptive Strike - Win 2-1

Kylo bit the dust and Phasma followed soon after. I don’t recall the details of this match, but it was over fairly quickly.

Round 4: Yoda Rey1 Padawan - Win 3-1

This was a very close match. My opponent kept generating shields and using force illusions. Rey went down first, and then he was very close to killing Sabine. My opponent conceded after a Never Tell Me The Odds and Running Interference combo, even though it would not have been enough damage to kill Yoda and the Padawan, through a Force Illusion. He still had a chance of killing off Sabine in the next round, using a Padawn that would have had 3 weapons after redeploy.

Round 5: Yoda hondo - Win 4-1

I killed off Yoda quickly, and was able to pay Hondo off every time. It helped that I Vandalized his Cunning and that they were not able to play any other upgrades on Hondo.

Round 6: Hero Vehicles Rose-Aayla-Ezra - Win 5-1

I took down Rose and then Ezra fairly quickly. Aayla went down soon after. The key in this game was using Vandalize to remove their Rally Aid, using Sabine’s 3 Disrupt and Ezra’s special to strip their resources. I think that they ended the game with only 2 or 3 vehicles in play.

Round 7: Rey-Aayla-Profitable Connections - Loss 5-2

My opponent played very well and took Sabine out quickly. I might have had a chance if I had drawn into a Second Chance or Impersonate.

I finished in 15th place based on strength of schedule.

Lessons learned:
  • Sabine is scary, especially in already stressful big tournaments. Never have I played against so many people with shaky hands and nervous sweat as they waited for “Sabine to do Sabine things”. When facing Sabine, you will have a better chance if you keep your head.

  • Play Second Chance before you need it, especially against Yellow villains.

  • I don’t think that I like Scramble. In theory, it is a Sound The Alarm that hits specials, but the only time that I played it, it turned 6 damage (lethal on Sabine) into 8 damage.

I was your opponent in round 3. You rolled sabine into free damage in round 1 and hyperspaced out in round 2 where my deck usually wins. Then rolled sabine into 3 3 +2 and killed kylo. Nothing anyone could do against rolls like that.
