This is the deck I ran at the San Diego Regional. Great event from top to bottom, everyone I met from the staff to other players to random store customers were friendly and having a good time. Unfortunately in round 1 I got matched up with my friend that I test with and he got the win (he went 5-2, made the cut). I managed a 5-2 finish (losing in the 7th round to AgentOfZion who won the event) but got 9th place based on SoS.

There are a couple changes I'd make based on facing 3 mill decks in 7 rounds (along with 2 Vader/X and 2 vehicle decks), which I'll test and possibly post after next weekend's GQ in Phoenix Arizona.

Really like this build. Feels like a mix of the planned explosion deck I'm running at the moment and the Wedge vehicles deck I had last set. How does it do for money gen? Also what's your thinking behind BB-8 over C3PO? BB-8 has better sides and an ability that lets you use him twice one round, but C3POs ability is overpowered and would be a must have for me, especially with the big sides in the deck. using a Lando 4 or a Shadowcaster 5 as a discard to wipe the opponent's hand could be devastating. Especially against Vader who relies on his hand.

Hi, thanks for the comments. I use BB-8 because he's got focus and I can attach to a vehicle as a mod, which helps with Shadow Caster and with Outgun. C3P0 was a consideration but ultimately I wanted to use BB-8 and Escape Craft for focus and mod capability. I am actually decently geared versus Vader decks and others, with the speed and burst damage. The changes I would make are to slightly adjust the vehicles and mitigation to better help against Yoda/Leia2 mill deck which was definitely the hardest deck I played against (twice) during the tournament.

Regarding your first question--Lando makes money. :) However, this deck is not overly expensive and you don't need to hit Lando's money to succeed. You'll usually win the battlefield (potential 14 for rollout), and with BF + Lando action, you can get any vehicle out turn 1. If you do score a little money on top of that then the mods can also be played early. You will make money with this deck, and as a round progresses I'll sometimes even use Wedge's power action on Escape Craft for the 2 resources to power other moves. This deck can go fast or slow, can burst out a PE or lots of ranged/indirect damage, plus it has a decent mitigation package. Overall it's pretty balanced though again, I have a few small adjustments to make that will help in the Yoda/Leia2 mill matchup. Other than that I'm happy with how it played.

Here's a breakdown of my Swiss round matchups. First round was against my friend (60 people and we get matched round 1, go figure) who knows my deck as well as I do. He made the top 8.

Round 1 - Vader/Jawa/Retribution - L Round 2 - Beckett/Luce/Ciena/Armored Reinforcement - W Round 3 - Leia2/Lando2 - W Round 4 - Hux/Bala/Dark Advisor - W Round 5 - Yoda/Leia2 - W Round 6 - Vader/Greedo - W Round 7 - Yoda/Leia2 (Agent of Zion, tourney winner) - L

I might have made the top 8 had a cheating incident been resolved differently. So it goes. Still had a lot of fun, met a lot of cool people, great time overall.

Do you think Yoda - Wizened Master could be a better partner for Lando Calrissian - Smooth and Sophisticated as it can focus him on his 4 resources more often? I know there is many red cards you would lose access but plenty of blue are good too. -2 Outgun, +2 Overconfidence, -2 Pinned Down, +2 Pacify, -2 Attack Run, +2 Double-Cross, -1 BB-8, +1 R2-D2, -2 Confidence, +2 Double-Dealing, -2 Triple Laser Turret, +2 Laser Cannon, -2 Dorsal Turret, +2 Systems Gauge, -2 Suppressive Fire, +2 Force Illusion. In all, you could gain more resources with Double-Dealing and get same amount of mitigation cards and Force Illusion.

I imagine Yoda makes just about any character better and more consistent, if you want to play yellow/blue. However, for Planned Explosion, Wedge's dice often come up big to help trigger that. His power action can switch a vehicle die into a value to also get off PE or line up with other dice on the board. I think Wedge has a lot of value in this build, plus I get the extra burst with Attack Run which I get a lot of use out of in this mitigation heavy meta. The red turrets also provide a good amount of damage + protection of the support die in the pool.

Yoda/Lando2 is an interesting idea. I have played Yoda/Lando1 together before but as a fast mill deck. With the new Lando, they might make a good pairing as a support deck, couple extra blue ships to choose from instead of the turrets. Lose a little damage output from character dice but gain consistency, that's always appealing. It feels like it would be slower and that runs counter to the build I have in place--it would be a somewhat different deck, really.

Awesome fun. BOOM!

chinovalley 322

BOOM indeed! :) Will be sad to see Planned Explosion leave when rotation hits, great card that I've used in many decks over the past couple years.

Magister Mundi Sum 55

Sad you had to play AgentofZion I have always found him a bit of an asshole.

chinovalley 322

I did not have that experience, he was very cool when I played against him and talking to him a bit after the quarterfinal.

JuzFuzz 27

Don't really know the guy, or any of you for that manner, however, I don't think this is the place for discussing personalities.

I play a slightly different version of this deck due to a lack or duplicate supports. At the moment, I only have 1 Shadowcaster, MF Legacies and no MF AtG. I subbed in Awakenings MF effectively. Special comes in handy for yellow events but not always ideal.

My son is starting to feel Planned Explosion is a NPE.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. I'd be interested to know what you would swap out? For me, interestingly, Easy Pickings is one card I'm not sure about at the moment - I normally play that with yellow.

All the games you've played, which character does your opponent target first?

chinovalley 322

Usually Lando gets targeted first but not always, sometimes it's Wedge.

Legacies Falcon is crucial to the deck which is why I run two of them. N-1 is a great counter to other vehicle decks. You can go with one Shadow Caster; I'm making adjustments where only one Shadow Caster is used and I sub in another vehicle such as a Pirate Tank. Flames of the Past is a big card in mill decks so reducing the duplicates of the supports helps ward against that. I've also adjusted the mitigation package since Yoda/Leia2 mill is really strong right now, but I left Easy Pickings in. It's a strong mitigation card against most decks.

I have a friend I play with frequently who has used a similar deck, though single die Wedge and Armored Reinforcements. He uses the Landing Dock battlefield, and also puts two Smuggling Freighters in the deck.

If you draw/tutor for the freighters, you can Lando them in for free, then Wedge action them into 2 dollars and bounce them back to top of deck. It's slow and eats both power actions, but you're getting 2 dollars, plus another ship to play next turn to trigger the Landing Dock ability to snag the battlefield even if your opponent claimed it. That means you always get to use the battlefield's reroll power action (nice free mitigation), and you can reliably use cards like Defensive Position, Dug in, and Arial Advantage, while denying your opponent similar cards.

Against that deck, and probably against yours as well, you should target Wedge first. Lando looks scarier, but Wedge's ability to fix the N1 to the special side is super deadly in the end game.

chinovalley 322

I used to have a Smuggling Freighter in the deck (look at the previous version of this deck) but removed it for BB-8 to have an extra ship mod. My version for this weekend's Phoenix GQ removes BB-8, adjusts the ships/mitigation slightly. I'd say more but I want to play it first at the GQ, then will post the updated list. However, I'll say that I often use Wedge's power action on the Escape Craft for 2 resources. My trilogy version of this deck uses Landing Dock. However, for current Standard format, Weapons Factory Alpha + Wedge means a 4 cost ship can be played right off the bat, or I can play a smaller ship with resources left for mitigation/mods or even another ship. The deck doesn't want to go real slow, though it can pace itself as needed. The intent is to burst hard and avoid mitigation. With that in mind I prefer to play it with more speed and use the power actions to put out damaging ships quickly, burst into lots of damage or a Planned Explosion. Not a lot of wiggle room with the current list, though everyone has their preferences and just about any mix of ships will be good, as long as you have the large damage sides and burstiness plus the discard/reset ability of N-1. I would definitely keep both Legacies Falcons and N-1s and one Shadow Caster, but the rest is variable depending on your play style and decklist/mitigation package.

chinovalley 322

I also considered going with Biggs and AR, but I didn't like it as much. Lando2/Wedge with Weapons Factory Alpha does the trick and I have enough ships in the deck that I rarely start a game without a ship in hand to play--but even if that happens, the characters themselves can get upwards of 10 damage from their dice. Just need a little bit in the first round to set up the 2nd/3rd round PE plays on larger characters. 10 is the magic number. :)

LandoC 8

I built this one with 2 resistance bombers. If you have one out & can get the 6 your planned explosion works so much better.

chinovalley 322

Except Resistance Bomber is red and doesn't synergize with Lando's power action. That's the main reason. Otherwise I would run red ranged to use Surgical Strike in this First/Vehicle meta.

chinovalley 322

However, it does bear thinking about as far as PE and Wedge's +3 indirect sides. Might be a place for a Bomber, with a little adjustment.

JuzFuzz 27

How'd your tweaks go? I'm thinking of playing this without Planned Explosions casually as it feels like a NPE for the opponent. I love playing this deck (similar) though.

chinovalley 322

Hello JuzFuzz. PE is going away with rotation anyway, along with a lot of other negative cards, so it'll be a moot point for Standard tournaments. Infinite format is the wild west so if you're not up for the craziness/OP stuff in that environment then stick to Standard, I think. :)

My deck did okay at the GQ but not as good as I had hoped. I removed 1 Shadowcaster and put in a Pirate Tank. Took out BB-8 and put in CP30. Removed Outgun and put in Vandalize. I think in retrospect I might leave BB-8 in, and the Vandalize were not as useful as I had hoped so Outgun or even Surgical Strike would be better options--for Infinite format of course, because this list doesn't fly after rotation without some adjustments. I'll be playing around with those soon, after Convergence is released. Without PE though, it's a tougher fight so more focus on damage output is needed. Partnership is going away as well, but without PE it's not as critical to get the dice in the pool to do the Lethal hit.
