This deck was built in response to the recent Fast Hands errata because I believe that Vader/Raider took a huge hit.

It is built similarly to recent Vader/Raider decks that have cut Sith Holocron in favor of dice mitigation. The upgrades that have been left in the deck are not blue abilities so they can go on the Royal Guard as well.

I feel that with the new Fast Hands errata that Vader/Raider took a huge hit and that this deck is not a better option. It has arguably better starting character dice, you still get Vader's ability. You also get access to No Mercy (all blue), The Price of Failure (kill the Guard after he's mostly dead to ready Vader or vice versa). You also get guardian on the Guard to keep Vader alive longer.

This deck did fairly well in the meta before the errata and lost almost exclusively to decks in which it couldn't control an opponent's Vader dice. With the Fast Hands errata Vader's dice should be able to controlled for the most part.

This deck has favorable match-ups against Palpatine (guardian), Vader/Raider (with Errata you can guardian and remove dice). Poe/Maz (guardian or remove their Poe dice and hopefully kill Maz turn one (this has a huge impact on the game because Poe no longer has access to fast hands and once Maz falls his dice are easy to mitigate), Qui-Gon/Rey (Guardian their black damage sides), Unkar/X decks (lots of 0 cost), and many more.

Hard muligan for a two cost upgrade or a three cost upgrade and enrage. Alternatively, muligan for No Mercy for a potential turn one Poe kill or similar.

Pleas give this deck a try and let me know what you think! Comments and Questions welcome.

Honestly is lightsaber pike worth it? Im not a fan of that card and I really dont like price of failure. I also dont see any reason not to holicron in this deck? I feel something is here though

nickthebug7777 1399

@Jrock_est91 I have lightsaber pike in here mostly because it can go on the guard (its not a blue ability). I feel it's better than Kylo Ren's Lightsaber because you don't have to pay for the black damage side to activate other plus sides.

I agree price of failure is very situational but since your using guardian on the guard, I've used it several times when he has one hit point left to ready vader after the opponent has claimed and gone for a Poe kill turn 1 or 2.

Holocron was, at first, omitted because I didn't own it but since I have gotten some and added them in I haven't found them to be particularly useful. Your base character dice are good on their own and you have just enough cheap upgrades to push the deck over the top. I wouldn't run holocron with only 8 upgrades and I'd rather pack removal in than more upgrades anyway.

Hope this answers some of your questions. I feel theirs room for improvement but the character combo seems strong.

I'm very interested in try this deck out. I'm testing Vader/Raider without FH right now but I would like to give this a shot as well. I'm not sure how I feel about a non-holocron build but if I were to accept that I think your on the right track for sure. I still think I like force illusion in this deck. I'm not sure how I feel about Manipulate because the power of this deck comes at its few dice so the only time I think you want to Manipulate is if your going to force strike that die anyway.

nickthebug7777 1399

@Stinger1988 I prefer the deck to Vader/Raider without FH because of the guardian to keep vader alive and potential "the price of failure" play.

Holocron isn't a bad idea I just don't run it because I don't run a large amount of upgrades for it anyway.

I agree with you on the force illusion and manipulate points. Force Illusion was not included at first because it can't go on the guard and it doesn't block vibroknife. I think, however, that because Vader is your heavy hitter you should be putting them on him anyway. -2 Manipulate +2 Force Illusion is going to be my next test.

Thanks for input!

@Jrock_est91 I am playing a similar deck, light on upgrades, heavy on events. When timed correctly, I have found The Price of Failure to be absolutely devastating, it is a great game closer. As it is often played after your opponent claims, I like to couple it with Boundless Ambition, giving you all the re-roll opportunities you need to deal 6-12 damage.

@nickthebug7777 How often do you build up to the 5 resources to Play Rise Again? I also include 2 Lightsaber in my deck but have yet to get them out since I am usually spending most of my resources on mitigation.

Thanks!!

nickthebug7777 1399

@Zenclix The Boundless Ambition/Price of Failure play is fabulous but I find that I don't have the resources for Boundless after my opponent claims. Do you have a solution for this?

Also to answer your question, I don't usually have the resources for a rise again play but when I see it in my hand I will save for it and play as soon as I have the the 5 resources.

I also don't get the lightsabers out most games. Another two cost upgrade would be ideal but I don't want to include Makashi (can't go on guard) and that's the only option. Lightsaber is also nice with a rise again.

Hope this answers your question!

@nickthebug7777 - i think @Zenclix and myself are working on similar style decks and the issue i've been running in to with testing is everything costs (lets not get started vs mill decks, they really shoehorn this deck).

I've removed anything 2 and above events in favour of zero cost events mainly Manipulate and Doubt. Enrage is essential in all blue decks.

I'm also questioning whether Force Speed is essential. Everytime I seem to get it on Vader, I either never roll a . The only helpful side it rolls is the . I'm going to test a my regular game night tomorrow night and see how it fares before store champs next week.

I tried Lure of Power however have not tried to combo it with Manipulate if it lands on its . That way you can turn its to the 2nd and not have your board state any worse off.

The other idea I have been floating is potentially adding in Force Choke to help focus your Vader die. Roll the , action against Vader for the 1 unblockable damage, then turn his die to 3. Combine this with Force Speed and you can resolve them both for one action, then resolve without worrying about mitigation. However in a game that moves really fast, this may take a bit to much to setup.

Sorry to add, I have also dropped 2 x Lightsaber in favour of Kylo Ren's Lightsaber. At the moment i'm only running the one and overwriting Makashi Training as soon as I get it. If there are no shields on my opponents side, I might overwrite Vibroknife and the Makashi Training die is stronger.

So far it has performed extremely well.

And I haven't removed No Mercy - its a great finisher.

nickthebug7777 1399

@ordinaryjedi I usually don't have to many issues with resources honestly. I've been testing a new version of this deck (Which should go up shortly) that basically includes all of the cards you mentioned. I also took out the lightsaber pikes because they just didn't do much for me.

I left lightsabers in because I like the redeploy (I'll put them on the guard and then kill him with price of failure to use it again on Vader). and because it is super nice with rise again. I'll have to think about replacing it with Makashi though.

I love lure of power because it lets you do whatever you want. Most often you're going to want damage but it also is great for disrupt against other blue decks and decks running rise again or resources.

I've found that the main strategy of this deck is to use boundless and trust your instincts to see as much of your deck quickly as possible. That way I have tons of fodder to reroll those vader dice with and put the hurt on. This also keeps me from having my rise agains stuck on the bottom (battlefield helps with this as well). My favorite play is to kill the guard after opponent has claimed and then fill my hand with boundless to kill a character turn 1 or 2.

Your right that mill decks mess with this strategy. Ive had good luck against them by ignoring my usual strategy and rerolling only blanks and shields. Ill take resources, disrupt, damage or discard and just roll with it. The vader dice will usually be able to do the trick and if you end up with lots of resources play a lightsaber or something for next turn.

Thanks for feedback!

how do you find not having Force Speed?

nickthebug7777 1399

@ordinaryjedi I've tried force speed and honestly I don't feel the need for speed in this deck. I want my opponent to claim as fast as possible so that I can do my shenanigans (kill guard and roll vader again, change a die to a side with use the force etc.).

ordinaryjedi.ddu.network 834

I am thinking the same thing. Dice control your opponent until they claim, then open fire. What have you sawpped out and running now?

nickthebug7777 1399

I've taken out the Feel Your Anger, both Overconfidence and both Lightsaber pike for 2 Boundless Ambition, a second Price of Failure, a Trust Your Instincts, and a Use the Force.

Basically I've made my general strategy: overachieve with Vader's dice, see lots of your deck, wait for the opponent to claim and then wreck face. I usually hard mulligan for vibroknife but I'll take lure of power too.
